Tips for gathering evidence to demonstrate your skills

The important thing to remember when gathering evidence is that the more evidence the better - that is, the more evidence you gather to demonstrate your skills, the more confident an assessor can be that you have learned the skills not just at one point in time, but are continuing to apply and develop those skills (as opposed to just learning for the test!). Furthermore, one piece of evidence that you collect will not usualy demonstrate all the required criteria for a unit of competency, whereas multiple overlapping pieces of evidence will usually do the trick!

RIIUMM304D - Construct and maintain underground roads

What evidence can you provide to prove your understanding of each of the following citeria?

Plan and prepare for road construction and maintenance

  1. Access, interpret and apply road construction and maintenance documentation, and ensure the work activity is compliant
  2. Obtain, interpret and clarify/confirm work requirements before proceeding
  3. Select and wear personal protective equipment appropriate for work activities
  4. Select, and check for faults, appropriate type of equipment, tools and materials for work activities
  5. Perform equipment pre-start checks
  6. Identify, address and report potential risks, hazards and environmental issues
  7. Inspect and assess site conditions and determine if scaling is required and take action
  8. Use approved dust suppression and extraction methods
  9. Erect signs or barricades and/or safety provisions
  10. Ensure work area is well ventilated before entry
